I just watched the movie, American Made, for the second or third time. Tom Cruise plays the role of Barry Seal an American pilot who became a drug-runner for the CIA during the 1980s in a convoluted clandestine operation that later became known as the Iran-Contra Affair. I must admit that the movie is very entertaining despite the scandalous government behavior that it reveals.
In memory of the “peace President,” John F. Kennedy who was assassinated 61 years ago today, my longtime friend Dave Ratcliffe prepared this summary for publication on his website:
1963 – November 22nd – 2024
On another Friday, 61 years ago, A President For Peace was very publicly executed in the noon day sun. While his generals wanted to win the Cold War, he sought to end it. The escalating list of conflicts between President Kennedy and his national security state before he was assassinated includes:
October 1962: negotiated resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis by pledges of no US invasion of Cuba and withdrawal of US missiles from Turkey made to Nikita Khrushchev;
Every US administration since then has pursued the agenda of war and domination which has brought the world ever closer to its inevitable conclusion. There is only one way to stop it, which is for each of us to recognize our own complicity in it and refuse to continue our support.
To that I add my own observations and opinions about the state of the world and the recent US Presidential election.
The American Republic—Can it be Restored?
It seems that the majority of Americans today are unwilling to acknowledge that the American Republic, like Roman Republic before it, has over a long period of time, been transformed in numerous stages into a far-flung empire controlled by a (in this case, transnational,) oligarchy.
These two worldviews are the primary basis for the bitter divisions that exist today within American society, divisions which are being exacerbated by the oligarchs’ deliberate moves to sow doubt, confusion, and conflict by means of false-flag operations, propaganda, and limitations on free speech, and by mandating behaviors which in the name of emergencies, like climate change, pandemics, and threats from foreign “enemies,” are designed to further weaken any opposition to their agenda of domination.
Is there any hope at all of reclaiming the American Republic in the face of such immense corruption and concentration of power? Perhaps, but it must be done from the bottom up by the American people ourselves, not from the top of the political hierarchy, but achieving it requires that people respect and listen to one another despite our political, cultural, religious, ethnic, and other differences, and that we unite in common cause to advance those things we can agree are of fundamental importance, like peace, fellowship, community, freedom, fairness, and the common good—in short, love.
The Trump victory can be explained by two things, the first is the general sense that something needs to be changed, that the continual expansion of centralized power and control must be interrupted and reversed, and secondly by the fact that opposition to it has expanded from a lone would-be champion to a broader-based movement that has attracted some unlikely players whom Trump has embraced and promised to share power with. People like Elon Musk, and former Democrats like RFK, Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard who are committed to addressing some major popular concerns like the government’s instigation and support of armed conflict around the world, open borders, the growing power of huge corporations, monetary inflation, the decreasing share of the economic product that goes to labor, the shrinking middle-class, and the wrecking of the economy by continually increasing budget and trade deficits. Given, as usual, only two viable choices by the American political duopoly, the only surprise about the outcome is the rather lopsided extent of the victory.
There are none so insightful and poetic as the Irish. This short speech by Terry McMahon sums up the rot that has overtaken Western countires as the people, by our misplaced trust, have allowed our so-called leaders to betray us and sell off our material and cultural heritage. No more! Listen, think, and act. Stand for truth, stand for reason, stand for freedom.
John Mauldin’s recent article, Late Summer Sandpile, is one of his best–thought-provoking and very timely. As an investment advisor, his primary concern is with financial markets and systems, but the academic research findings in complexity and systems theory have a broader relevance. Thinking about systems as sand piles, academics can examine the dimensions of stability and instability as they occur in a wide variety of systems. After reading the article, I felt inclined to respond. Here below is what his article evoked in me.
Our civilization “sand pile” is comprised of many diverse but related fingers of instability, some small, some large, and many interconnected; that puts our entire civilization at risk. Among the most worrisome features are the astronomical growth of debt, religious, and cultural conflicts, competing political ideologies, and international intrigues and violence involving players that are now in command of unprecedented destructive power. If the conflict between Ukraine/NATO and Russia doesn’t trigger a nuclear war in the near term as Peter Koenig expects, the mountains of debt being built up will trigger a global financial collapse in the not-too-distant future. Markets are much more centralized than they used to be and are increasingly dominated by a few major players which tosses free market theories of market behavior out the window. Virtually all markets today are manipulated by huge corporations, investment funds, and asset management firms. But the biggest manipulators are the national governments of the major powers and their partners who run the global banking cartel. The top dog among them is the US government which has greatly abused the status of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. It doles out privileges not only via legislation and executive orders, but increasingly by the preferential expenditure of massive amounts of legalized counterfeit money to favored clients and proxy governments in a desperate attempt to preserve and extend its “full spectrum dominance,” and replace democratic national governments with a One-World neo-feudal world order. The US and its allies are pushing the limits in the hope and expectation that there will not be a reaction big enough to upset their apple cart. But as Mauldin reminds us, one small grain of sand is often all it takes.
Chapter 3, The Contest for Rulership—Two Opposing Philosophies. is now available. You can find it on my website, complete with end notes, along with previously published chapters 1 and 2. Click on the links below to access the text and the audio narration. Additional chapters will be posted as they are completed here. I expect to complete Chapter 4 and post it around the end of this year.
As always, your comments and suggestions will be welcomed, Thomas ___________________
I feel sorry for the Ukrainian people, not only have they been conscripted to fight a proxy war for the US against the Russians, a war in which despite massive financial and military support they are being slaughtered; they have now been selected to be a demonstration project for a US-created information system that gives the Kiev government all the information it needs to control every aspect of their people’s lives. Little by little, place by place, Big Brother is enslaving the masses.
I asked Bing Chat to give me a summary of the history, development and capabilities of the Diia phone app which is the heart of the system now being deployed. Here is what it gave me:
Generated by Bing Chat, Monday, October 2, 2023
The Diia app is a mobile application, web portal, and brand of e-governance in Ukraine that was launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine . The app allows Ukrainian citizens to use digital documents on their smartphones instead of physical ones for identification and sharing purposes. The Diia portal allows access to over 50 government services, and the government plans to make all kinds of state-person interactions available through Diia.
The name “Diia” is an acronym for “State and Me” in Ukrainian. The app was built in partnership with the USA and is poised to be shared with other countries. In fact, at the 2023 World Economic Forum in Davos, USAID Administrator Samantha Power said that the US hopes to replicate the success of Diia in other countries.
Diia was first presented on September 27, 2019, by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine as a brand of the State in a Smartphone project. Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced the creation of a mobile app and a web portal that would unite in a single place all the services provided by the state to citizens and businesses. On February 6, 2020, the mobile app Diia was officially launched.
In April 2020, the Ukrainian government approved a resolution for experimental usage of digital ID-cards and passports which would be issued to all Ukrainians via Diia. On October 5, 2020, during the Diia Summit, the government presented a first major update of the app and web portal branded “Diia 2.0”. By the end of 2020, the app had more than 6 million users, while the portal had 50 available services.
Please note that while I have tried my best to provide accurate information based on my sources, some details may be outdated or incomplete.
Ukraine has been at the forefront of government digitalization. The country became the first one in the world to allow a digital ID on a smartphone to be universally accepted as an alternative to a paper one. The Diia app can serve as a legally-recognized document for:
ID card
Foreign passport
Student card
Driving licence
Vehicle registration document
Vehicle insurance certificate
Tax identity
Birth certificate
IdP certificate (identity-management system)
The Diia app also provides access to over 70 government services, allowing citizens to do things like register as self-employed within the app in just 15 minutes.

Further, according to one source, the government has already announced that the payment of benefits will be conditional on the presence of a Covid-19 vaccination certificate. While the use of the app is for the moment voluntary, do not for one moment think that it will remain so, or that similar systems won’t be imposed in other countries around the world as US officials have already stated their intention to do so. It’s a giant step forward in the agenda toward greater centralization of power and wealth and the elimination of democratic government. Any astute observer can see that right and left politics have been integrated into a global despotic “uniparty” under elite control. As Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum has clearly stated, they have trained and placed in positions of power in countries around the world, people, like Justin Trudeau (PM of Canada) and Emmanuel Macron (President of France) who will promote their agenda. He has also told us, “You will own nothing…” Neither will you be allowed to do anything without the permission of Big Brother.
In October of last year (2022) I gave a remote presentation to the 6th Biennial RAMICS International Congress in Bulgaria. RAMICS is the Research Association on Monetary Innovation and Community and Complementary Currency Systems, which includes both academics and practitioners. In my illustrated presentation titled, Private and complementary currency systems: purposes, principles, practices, and performance, I provided a concise summary of key points and fundamental principles that need to be understood in order to transcend the dysfunctional and destructive political money system by decentralizing the control of credit and creating honest and effective, non-political exchange media. Here is an abstract of its contents.
Through the generous assistance and editing work of Ken Richings, the presentation is now available for viewing on YouTube. ______________ Peace or Empire?
Dennis Kucinich at Rage Against the War Machine At the February 19 anti-war rally in Washington, DC, former US Congressman Dennis Kucinich made an inspired call for peace, justice, compassion, and an end to corruption in government. I don’t believe that any reasonable person of good would disagree with his message. In a subsequent message, Can they ‘repeal’ the dead? Ask Orwell, Kucinich recounts the criminal invasion of Iraq by the US in 2003, the lies which were used to justify it, and its tremendous cost in material resources and lost lives. Another major consequence has been an erosion of trust in the US government both at home and abroad.
The achievement of peace in the world requires mutual respect and good faith negotiations, but unfortunately, peace is not the goal of those who have for some time been in control the US government under administrations of both parties, rather, they are bent on achieving “full spectrum dominance” and have chosen to restart the Cold War in hopes of weakening Russia and forcing it into line with the agenda of the New World Order in which the Western powers control all the Earth’s resources. If you want to get a more accurate picture of what’s actually been going on in eastern Europe, pay attention to former Marine and UN nuclear weapons inspector, Scott Ritter starting with his post, Give peace a chance.
And to round out the story of why the world is now on the brink of an unprecedented catastrophe, listen to the ever insightful Noam Chomsky, still sharp and coherent at age 94, speak about Putin, Ukraine, China, and Nuclear War. ______________________ Disturbing Thoughts (about the economy)
John Mauldin is “a visionary thinker, a noted financial expert, a New York Times best-selling author.” I’ve been a subscriber to his Mauldin Economics newsletter for at least a couple years. This edition seems particularly important, especially the section titled, “We’re Going to Have a Crisis.”
Citing the recent bank failures and the government’s decision to insure even the uninsured depositors, Mauldin observes that deposits will inevitably be withdrawn from smaller banks and placed in banks that are considered “too big to fail.” He argues that a major change is needed but that, “Our political system is sadly not up to the task. The current structure is all we have, and it won’t improve until a crisis forces change.” He quite emphatically concludes that “…the situation demands changes. Which means—and I don’t say this lightly—we’re going to have a crisis which will give us that change.”
Mauldin continues with an analysis of the developing crisis, particularly with regard to small banks’ exposure to declining asset values in commercial real estate. You can read the entire newsletter at Mauldin Economics. ___________
In April the Sonoran desert blooms, the fragrance of orange blossoms fills the air along with that of creosote bush, Palo Verde and a host of other plants. The winter chill has gone and the summer heat has not yet arrived. It is a particularly pleasant time to be here. I hope you are enjoying your home turf as much as I am mine.
Over the period from July to October 2020 I wrote and published three articles in my “Walking Away” series. My aim was to show readers a more complete picture of our predicament, to present some largely overlooked facts, and to alert readers to the dangers of following the course that political leaders across the globe had set for us.
In part one, as in my previous writings, I pointed out that we are presently confronted with a global multi-dimensional mega-crisis which global leaders propose to address with various techno-fixes that will do little to solve our problems but will further reduce individual freedom, free enterprise, and community control, and ratchet up the power and wealth of an elite “super class” that are determined to impose a “new world order” of mass surveillance, regimentation, and domination.
Now, more than a year later, it has become patently clear to anyone who cares to open their eyes that this is precisely where we are about to arrive. While we were assured that mask mandates were just a temporary precaution to slow the spread and “flatten the curve,” they have been continued by various governmental entities, medical facilities, and private businesses in many places including my home city and county where one must mask up to enter public buildings, even the public libraries. We were also assured that there was no need for vaccine mandates, and that medical passports would not be imposed, but now they are well on the way to becoming universal. If you think it will end with that, think again. Power and wealth have been so thoroughly concentrated in the hands of that “super class” who own and control the systems and institutions on which we all depend, that they are able to completely dominate the rest of us. Every new technology provides them with better tools to more effectively shape your perceptions, to monitor your every move; to control where you go, what you do, with whom you do it, and your access to everything you need. Everyone who is not a member of that relatively small class will be living in an open air prison.
Canada in the coming weeks is launching a standardized proof of vaccination credential for both domestic and international travel that will be required of everyone. Airline pilots in the US have been resisting similar moves by the US government and airline companies, but their attempts to block the mandates through the courts have so far been rebuffed.
Even more extreme demands are being made upon citizens in other places, like India. Just the first 5 minutes of this Jimmy Dore report is enough to show you the picture of what is being implemented there and is already programmed to be deployed worldwide. A social credit system similar to what has been operating for some time in China will be rolled out everywhere. As the old vaudevillians and early TV performers used to say, “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.”
Primary features of the New World Order are “transhumanism” and the “the Internet of Things” (IoT) in which everything is wirelessly connected to the internet, including machinery, robots, livestock, pets, household appliances, and YOU. But as Microsoft describes it, “The Internet of Things isn’t just about connected devices—it’s about the information those devices collect and the powerful, immediate insights that can be garnered from that information.” From a purely physical/material perspective, there may be some advantages to that, but who will have access to all that information, and how will it be used? Can they be trusted to use it to our benefit? It’s obvious where this is heading: Today the medical passport, tomorrow the implanted chip that you will need to gain access to everything. Like the cattle in this video, you will be “managed” by your masters. Are you willing to surrender your life to a centralized “Big Brother” authority? Where will you draw the line? Do you want to be a “thing” in this “brave new world?”
We humans are more than physical bodies; there is a spiritual dimension to our existence, a force that gives us life, consciousness, intellect, emotions, creativity, and free will. Another civilization is possible and it has been in the process of emerging for a very long time. It is a civilization that is being built upon better sentiments and values than fear, hatred, and limitless greed. It is a civilization in which the spiritual aspects of being are valued above the material.
The Worldwide Walkout Now is the time to stand up and refuse to submit to the New World Order, the Great Reset, and the Brave New World that the oligarchs want to impose on us. Our rights to freedom of expression, freedom of association, freedom of movement, freedom of worship, freedom to refuse medical treatments, and all of the other hard won freedoms that have been the object of centuries of struggle are rapidly being stolen from us. We the people need to strongly express our refusal to submit. A Worldwide Walkout is happening this Wednesday, November 3. In this one minute video, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is urging everyone to get out onto the streets on Wednesday to make our resistance visible. I am suggesting that we need to go even further. While our actions must remain non-violent, our massive demonstrations need to be accompanied by non-participation in the “system” that has become totally corrupted. Let’s make November 3 the day on which we begin to seriously withdraw from the old corrupt civilization by refusing, as much as we are able, to buy anything (and if you must buy something, pay for it using cash to preserve some shreds of financial privacy); let’s refuse to go to work except only for critical jobs (in health care and other front line occupations); let’s get creative and share other ideas for non-participation, and let’s make this a recurring event that builds with each iteration.
Many workers, especially in the airline industry have been asserting their power by not showing up for work, resulting in thousands of flight cancellations and delays. On the heels of the massive disruptions to Southwest Airlines operations a few weekends ago during which thousands of flights were cancelled and many more delayed, similar disruptions have occurred to American Airlines just this past weekend. Most mainstream media blamed them on the weather but that is patently false. This local Dallas TV report at least was halfway honest in reporting: American Airlines Cancels 1000+ Flights Sunday Due to Weather, Staffing Shortages. Cancelled AA flights over the weekend reportedly numbered more than 2000 and the disruptions have continued into the workweek with an additional 400 flights cancelled as of early Monday morning. Staffing shortages in many other businesses and industries are further evidence that growing numbers of people are refusing to accept the increasingly onerous terms and conditions of employment and are just choosing to “walk away.”
We the people have the power. The system cannot stand without our consent and participation. Submission is our downfall. We must rise up and take action, not only for ourselves but also for our fellows who remain blind to the corrupting forces that have them still in thrall, and especially for our posterity, the Earth and the entire web of life. We are not alone, more people are waking up, and with courage, faith and compassion we can overcome the forces of tyranny and avert our descent into the totalitarian nightmare.
The first edition of my book, The End of Money and the Future of Civilization, was published by Chelsea Green Publishing in 2009. While it remains as relevant today as it was when first published the printed book has been out of print for several years. But, having had the rights reverted to me by my publisher, I am making the entire book available for free in PDF format. You can read it or download it HERE. If you would like a hard copy of the first edition used copies can still be found on Amazon.com, Abe books, Thrift books and elsewhere.
Better still, you can avail yourself of the new revised and expanded 2024 edition which I have been working on for almost two years and is almost complete. Eighteen chapters have already been posted and can be freely read or download HERE.
